The project developed for the villa in Penafiel reflects the passion of the client, of Dutch origin, for the authenticity and beauty of the place.
Upon finding this stone house, the client is captivated not only by the historic structure, but also by the location of the house within the property.
This rehabilitation project aimed to preserve the rural characteristics of the original building, while integrating it with the new routines of working from home, as well as with a European culture.
For this integration, the land was practically safeguarded, allowing a continuous flow between the house and the natural landscape.
Spaces were kept for cultivation and leisure, providing an experience that values simplicity and a connection with the land – a relationship the client had longed for.

moving from the city to the countryside
The routine of the client, who moved from Holland to live in a quiet countryside environment near Penafiel, was a crucial factor in the design of the project. Developed in concepts of open and unique spaces, the design maximizes the common areas, creating a feeling of spaciousness and connection between the spaces.
Without privacy constraints, the house was designed with strategic openings to the outside, allowing nature to be enjoyed at any time of the day.
